Contraceptive pill changes

May 2011

There are currently some shortages of certain types of the contraceptive pill. Marvelon, Microgynon and Mercilon are out of stock and being replaced with substitute pills.

If you are usually prescribed these types of pill, there is no need to worry. You will be given a different make of pill which works in exactly the same way and should be taken as usual.

  • Marvelon is now replaced with Gedarel 30
  • Microgynon is now replaced with Levest or Rigevidon
  • Mercilon is now replaced with Gedarel 20

If you are still concerned, contact your GP or call the Worcestershire Sexual Health Helpline on 0800 783 2936 (open Mon - Fri, 9.00 am - 4.30 pm).
